mad indeed
For the prompt by @labyrinthia mythweaver
long I have traveled this winding path
deeper in the hemlock than advised
I drudge on
gone are the nights the village hummed
a tune in my ear
gone are the lanterns
any sign of life but for one
my own
I have forgotten…
my own voice
I did not find the door
It found me
in my despair
when I turned the knob what did I wish for
an end perhaps
but I found a beginning
of fauna and folklore
a sprawling footpath of geode
stone bridge over pink waters
fish scaled women drift
in halos of long blonde hair
and flying past in a flurry
the breast and brawn of winged bodies
the men! with beards to their toes
coarse and burly in pantaloons
ruffled to their collars
eyed me from atop
the centaurs proud
wielding swords of pure gold
sun with its yellow eye of the were
watched as a dragon clears the sky
with one flap
nearly tripping the top hat of a giant
on a walkabout
“my eyes, my eyes great heavens
they can’t be trusted. “
I exclaimed
grasping the trunk of the nearest tree.
“Nor your hands” the bark chuckled
running its feathered leaf down my nose.
“Nor your feet” the grass giggled
gyrating below me as many worms.
“NOR MY MIND” I agreed
I proclaimed
I decreed
I heralded, I trumpeted
I’ve gone mad!!
mad as the hatter
mad as the world
mad as the doctor and judge
“It is settled,” said the tree
“for the best,” sword agreed
“It is so,” said the scales
“so shall be,” the fairy
mad as the bridge trolls toll
my mind’s fallen down the loophole.
